Yes, I know! I have been away too long and I have not written to you. Shame on me! Please accept my apologies. Hopefully you’ve been watching my posts on Instagram though! 😉 Still there’s no excuse for leaving you hanging for so long.
Well I’m back and I’ve recently stumbled upon my new, most fabulous favorite! She is my new style crush, my new style inspiration! Ladies (& gentleman need to know and appreciate her too), I present to you, Iris Apfel!! Can I just say, OMG!! She is fantastic! I want to be anything remotely close to stylish like her when I grow up. She’s amazing!
I am currently watching her documentary on Netflix and I am fascinated. She’s THE style icon of all style icons. This 95 year old woman can only inspire your inner style being with her amazing outfits, her wardrobe and her style quotes. Her style has been premiered in museums. That’s what I’m talking about!
I love her style quotes! Here are just a few:
“You have to be interested. If you’re not interested, you can’t be interesting.”
“I’m not pretty, and I’ll never be pretty, but it doesn’t matter. I have something much better. I have style.”
“Personal style is curiosity about oneself.”
“I say, dress to please yourself. Listen to your inner muse and take a chance. Wear something that says ‘Here I Am’ today.”
YESSS! How can you not be inspired by that!!
I recently saw a post that I absolutely loved. It said “Life is too short to wear boring clothes!”
This is so true! Why be boring? Go ahead! Be colorful, be bold! Showcase your style! This is your chance to rock that bright color, crazy pattern, or put together an outfit you’ve seen on Pinterest or in a magazine so you can see how great it looks on you. Go for it! You will love how you feel because you don’t look like everyone else and you don’t fit in with the crowd! When you are not boring, you will have so much more fun when shopping and in your closet when putting your looks together.
Let’s channel the words of Zelda Fitzgerald & Marilyn Monroe:
“She refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn’t boring.”
“It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
I’m a big fan of people being exactly who they are! That’s what makes us all us! Accepting who you are, flaws and all, is a huge accomplishment. Not only do you understand you but when you are you, others know what they are getting and learn a lot. There are no surprises. The saying ‘when someone shows you who they are believe them’ holds true.
When I think of this statement and being you, I swing in the positive direction. It’s beautiful to be you! Don’t hide, don’t pretend. Express it verbally, physically, through your personal style, your hair, your makeup, all the above if that’s what you choose to do. That truth makes you feel good about yourself and it can draw people to you because you are who you are and they know what they are going to get!
So keep being beYOUtiful!
“Pay yourself first” is a popular phrase when it comes to money but I like the same phrase when it comes to style. What do I mean by this?
I mentioned in my last post how paying attention to details helps to stay inspired when putting your looks together. Paying attention will also help in some other areas too. Paying attention will help you see what works for you. If there’s someone you follow or know personally that has similar taste and a similar sense of style as you, pay attention to what works for them and you can add these same or similar ideas to your wardrobe and looks. This may be a good first step if you are just starting out with renewing your closet, or you want to shop for new looks, or you just want to add new pieces to your existing wardrobe.
So go ahead, keep a little something for yourself and watch it pay off!
My paying attention credit goes to @pinkandgabulous for the recap of my weekly looks below.
I know! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted and I apologize for that. I am back at it though.
So, I’ve posted about being inspired but do you stay inspired? I have to remind myself of this all the time. Sometimes we can go day to day getting dressed for whatever we have to do that day, with little to no excitement about the look we put together. Simply getting dressed because we have to. We may need to be re-energized!!
Stay inspired!!! But how?
Pay attention to people around you and what they are wearing. Pay attention to the outfit posts you see or follow on your social media sites. Pay attention to the looks that make you perk up and go “OK! I like how they did that!” Go home and see if you can incorporate some of the ideas in your wardrobe to come up with a similar look. You’ll be super excited to see the look come together and that inspiration come to life. You will stay inspired & help someone else stay inspired throughout the day!
My inspiration credit goes to @polished_professionals for the look below. She posted multiple looks with blazers and graphic tees recently and I wanted to take on the look when I went out for drinks with a friend.
Good vibes are a great feeling! They can come from a form of positivity, inspiration, love, or from being creative.
Good vibes are how I feel when: Rocking an outfit, seeing a great combination, finding a new find for the closet & helping someone put a great look together! Oh the vibes. It feels so great!
Do something you enjoy and feel the good vibes!
